Pioneering Leaders

We are discovering very quickly that we have great Ministry Leaders in our Churches but lack what we the NLT team would call Pioneering Leaders.

The difference between these two types of leader is not actually huge but the leap across seems somewhat difficult for most.

A ministry leader is one who is able to fulfil a ministry role that already exists and is able to manage well with some changes managed to help the existing ministry forward.

Ministry Leaders are great people and fit a great managers role but this is not the pioneering leader.

So what really is a pioneering Leader? Someone who …
• Looks beyond how things are to how they might be different
• Has powerful visions
• Makes things happen
• Possess the trait of determination
• Is ambitious - to change things
• Is charismatic – attracts followers
• Is positive – they let their optimism be delightfully irrational simply because it needs to be
• Is a hard worker
• Chooses to work with stratospherically high levels of uncertainty

There is much potential within our movement to find ministry leaders for our Churches and to some degree we may be satisfied ... however we the NLT team have shifted priorities to rediscover what we believe to be void at present, and that is the elusive presence of the pioneering leader ... would the Pioneering Leader please stand? Are you out there? I say its time to come out of hiding.

Update from the NLT

To start our year we met at Bridge Valley for a two day retreat on the 24th & 25th February. Andrew and Wendy Ball joined us from NSW churches and Andrew facilitated the retreat section of our time and together. It was a beneficial two days resulting in greater clarification of strategies to drive the vision for the next few years.

Brent lead devotions the first morning from Joshua 1: "we walk from victory to victory our territory will extend". Jocelyn took devotions the second morning from Joshua 1:5 & Colossians 1:15 focusing on the Christ within us and the power and authority that we carry.

NLT along with the team from Annesbrook have decided to focus our resources this year on the Ministers Refresher on the 18th – 21st August, therefore there will be no Move 2010 conference, this will now be held next year and will become Move 2011.

Linda Eagle is now the Administrator and Treasurer contact for CCNZ, thanks to Shelley Johnstone for her work with the finances.

The retreat was an intense two days but all involved came away feeling it was very worth while and that much had been achieved from spending the extended time together.

God Bless

Missional Endeavours

Missional Endeavours are church initiatives that bring people closer to Christ and add to the church.

CCNZ’s intention is to have Missional Endeavours happening in every church within our movement of churches. These can be expressed in many different forms and styles but will all have the common theme of raising the God awareness in people who don’t yet know Jesus and call him Lord.

- Is the heart of this Endeavour to bring people into the Kingdom of God?
- How is the Gospel part of it?
- Brent spoke of the Engel Scale at Move09 and moving people toward Christ, will your Missional Endeavour bring them all the way or do you need other activities or programs to achieve this?

CCNZ is dedicated to seeing the gospel impact each community within New Zealand and to help our people who are in great need of an encounter with the living God.
To encourage this to happen more the NLT and the CEPTB has put together a fund that will give increased incentive and assistance to allow our churches to make this possible.

Below are the conditions and criteria that must be met to allow churches to be eligible for the available grants.
1.The $500 grant must go into your building maintenance fund (to met CEPTB conditions) then the equivalent money from this fund can be released and put towards your new Missional Endeavor.
2. Your properties must have titles registered with CEPTB.
3. Applications must be received by National office by (13th April this year only) 31st March annually
4. Your application needs to show that your new Missional Endeavour is up and running along with a full description of what you are undertaking and the expected outcomes.
5. Each new Missional Endeavour is eligible and there is no limit per church.
6. This grant will only be for new Missional Endeavours.

The potential to impact New Zealand through new Missional Endeavours is huge and we are looking forward to hearing your stories of advancement into your mission field of New Zealand.

The Wider Church by Lyndsay Jacobs

The Point Chevalier Cooperating Parish (Auckland) is now the Homestead Community Church. The church’s ministry is now centred on The Homestead.

New ministries commenced in February in three cooperative ventures in which Christian Churches are involved: Darryn Hickling (Christian Churches) at Linwood Avenue (Christchurch), Clare Lind (Presbyterian) at Tawa and Metui Tafuna (Methodist) at Matamata. St Anselms (Karori, Wellington) has established a search committee for a minister to succeed Dorothy Harvey who is retiring shortly. Desmond Cooper, minister at Wellington South, will become President of the Methodist Church in October. Murray Gow has returned to New Zealand from Poland.

David and Goliath are now working together! March 24 is launch date for the partnership of Christian World Service (CCNZ is a member of CWS - the NZ churches-together aid and development agency) and the newly-formed global Action by Churches Together. This will allow CWS to continue direct support for chosen partner projects as well as being part of a huge (US$2 billion) partnership helping communities world wide to develop.

Through Kiwilink, a house given by Richmond Mall (Nelson) is being given a makeover by local businesses and supporters with the proceeds going to Khayelihle Children’s Village in Zimbabwe.

Slow but steady progress is being made on the possible formation of a Churches’ Forum for Christian Unity with a further meeting planned for September.

The Uniting Congregations of Aotearoa New Zealand Standing Committee (UCANZ) is meeting March 24-25.

During April/May/June, cooperative ventures needing to contact CCNZ should contact George Langford. Lyndsay (and Lorraine) Jacobs will be overseas - at first at the World Convention Board meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, April 15 - 17. Gary Holloway has begun his ministry as Executive Officer of World Convention (connecting Christian Churches globally) and we are looking forward to a very positive, future focussed meeting.

Reminder: These Wider Church notes previously emailed separately are now included instead in CCNZ News.
