LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2010

Leadership Summit was held in August at Bridge Valley in the beautiful sunny Nelson area.  It was a great success this year with about 55 people attending from throughout our Movement.

David Riddell was our guest speaker on the Thursday and he focused on the area of self care for pastors and leaders within churches.  This was an encouraging and refreshing topic for all who attended.

There were a raft of activities held in the afternoons such as clay bird shooting, paddock racing, helicopter rides and a pamper afternoon for the ladies.  We gave away a free ride in a helicopter and the winner was Michael Wilson from Samoan Revival Christian Centre in Auckland.  Michael had not been in a helicopter before and he was slightly apprehensive as he climbed onboard but more than enjoyed his flight and his face said it all when it was over.

If you were unable to make it to Leadership Summit this year don’t forget the sessions are available for you to download free of charge from our website or by following this link: http://www.ccnz.org/mp3s/leadership.html.  You can download these and add them to your ipod or burn them to a CD to listen to while driving in your car.  We are sure you will find these sessions valuable and impacting and encourage you to listen to one today.

Below are some of the comments and testimonies that have been taken taken from the online survey which was sent out to all who attended.

"Meeting new people and the fellowship was great.  The guest speaker was very good and gave great insight and advice on avoiding burnout."

"Before coming to Leadeship Summit I was getting very 'bored' of same old same old, I was very encouraged by the speakers and felt very honoured to be amongst our 'role models', our leaders.  The word spoken over us was very exciting in where God wants to take us.  Now I have a fresh perspective on life and am soaking in the word of God."

"Before Summit I was praying to God for wisdom, and hearing the line up of speakers and what they had to say God answered my prayer.  God spoke to my heart and also encouraged me to be myself, enjoy life and love others."

"Just to be in the company of other men and women of God hearing how they have overcome or are working through some of the same challenges as you encourages me to keep going as our God is way bigger than any obstacles we may encounter."

"The presence of God in the worship was amazing."

"I was very encouraged and challenged by all the sessions and felt recharged and blessed."

"Loved the format of ‘brain time’ in the morning and a longer morning and the time to relax and chat to others in the afternoon, then more learning at night and the great mix of topics."

Dates for Summit next year will be available early in the new year so keep a look out and be sure to get there.

UPDATE FROM THE NLT & NATIONAL OFFICE

The NLT met again on the 15th September and this was another progressive meeting as the team strategise and look forward to what is ahead for CCNZ in 2011.

The building of the new National Office is well underway and George, Pauline & Linda are looking forward to moving in sometime in October.  This is a big step forward for CCNZ as we have never had a place before to call our own where all our operations can be conducted out of.

If you are ever passing through Nelson please call in for a coffee and check out our new home.  We are still located in the grounds of the Annesbrook Church on Saxton Road and you will find us along the street front of the main car park.  Our office hours are Monday to Thursday 9am-5pm.

WE ARE GROWING

CCNZ is doing very well; we have our Statistical Returns in from our churches and over the country they are looking very positive.  Our average weekly attendance has grown by 6% this year and 24% over the last three years which is very encouraging growth.

Baptisms are up 45% to 174 this year; an 87% rise over the last three years.

Salvations are down this year to 473 but over the 3 years are up by 70%.

The average size of our churches has been rising steadily form 2001 as there has been a 95% average growth.

We are a Church on a Mission - the greatest there could ever be.  We are moving forward an seeing growth and that is very exciting.

We have 98 Missional Endeavours with 36 new this year from throughout our 21 churches.  We are starting to make impact into our communities.   How encouraging is that!

Keep up the great work.

National Director

THE WIDER CHURCH

70th Anniversary Celebration of World Communion Sunday - October 3. The first Sunday in October has been celebrated as World Communion Sunday since 1940. It provides opportunity for a special focus on the global church and the underlying unity we have as Christians. For worship resources provided by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in USA/Canada go to
http://www.disciples.org/ccu/100thAnniversaryResources.html. Click on ‘J’, the last heading in the first section.

Dates for the 18th World Convention have been finalised. World Convention (Christian - Churches of Christ - Disciples of Christ) will meet August 1-5, 2012 in Goiania, Brazil. Goiania is a large city near the capital city, Brasilia. There are 400 Churches of Christ in the area. World Convention is open to all church members. This is an opportunity to see highlights of South America and share in an amazing international Christian experience. Let George Langford know if you want to receive further information as it becomes available.  (Please print this paragraph in Church newsletters.)

The Uniting Congregations of Aotearoa New Zealand Standing Committee (UCANZ) is meeting 20-21 in Johnsonville, Wellington. The next Forum will be in Motueka, Nelson, 1-4 September next year with the theme Beyond the Walls. All congregations (not just cooperative ventures) are warmly welcomed. Start planning for a group from your church.

The Christchurch ‘Quake’. Our Christian Church properties (including Hibburt Park) seem to be in good shape. Some members have difficult property and/or emotional challenges.

The National Ecumenical Dialogue (an exploratory ecumenical journey by national churches) met September 8th. A statement Towards a theology for Christian Unity in Aotearoa New Zealand which has been through several drafts was finalised. The likely name for any continuing group is Churches Forum for Christian Unity but how (or even whether) this might work will be discussed further at the next meeting on March 7th.

ANNESBROOK LEADERSHIP COLLEGE

The old saying goes ‘time flies when you are having fun!’  We must be having fun at ALC in 2010, because it is hard to believe that we are at the end of term three!  We have an amazing group of students, who are being blessed, challenged, trained and stretched in every way imaginable.

Every week’s schedule involves prayer, class time, and hands on ministry experience alongside the leaders of various programs here at Annesbrook or in the student’s home Church.  We place a big emphasis on encountering God, not just learning about Him… and creating opportunities for our students to experience leadership and ministry, rather than theorising in a class setting.

This year we have 50 students participating in our first and second year courses.  They come from a number of Churches around the region… and range in age from late teens to well into the middle aged years.

The atmosphere of the College is amazing!  Our students are motivated, determined and hungry for more of a revelation of God.  Prayer times are fantastic, class times are full of laughter… sometimes tears… questions… and a great sense of expectation!  We have seen genuine evidence of changed lives and increased fruitfulness among the ‘class of 2010’.

Heading into 2011, Annesbrook Leadership College is growing and developing in some significant ways.  From the start of next year, we will be offering TWO, FULL TIME, NZQA APPROVED, MINISTRY INTERNSHIPS.  Both of these course will run alongside the existing part time course we have been offering for the last few years, and will provide our next intake of students the option of participating in ALC five days a week… while receiving Student Allowances, having access to Student Loans, and overseas students will be able to apply for student visas.  This is a HUGE step forward, and creates for us the ability to offer a qualification that is nationally recognised!

People who are called to be leaders, need to grow and develop in their relationship with Jesus and in their leadership abilities.  On the other side of the equation, the Church needs leaders!  Are you called to lead?  Do you know someone who is called to lead?  Why not invest a year or two of your life into training to be the revolutionary leader Jesus has called you to be?

Don’t put it off for another year… now is the time!  Annesbrook Leadership College… it is all right here waiting for you.

GST INCREASE ON LEVIES

As you will be aware GST is set to increase from 12.5% to 15% on the 1st October.  CCNZ have made a decision not to increase the GST content on the Annual Levies for the remainder of this year.  The 2011 Levies will be set in December and the GST rise will be reflected in these.
